Ham's F-12 Nutrient Blend (F-12) Blood-free list of cells designed for use with Chinese Hamster Ovary (CHO) cells decking. Since then, F-12 has been used for serum-free growth of CHO cultures as well as serum-supplemented growth of other mammalian cells, including chondrocytes and rat prostate epithelial cells. F-12 contains a wider range of ingredients than other basal media, including zinc, putrescine, hypoxanthine and thymidine. Serum-free growth of CHO cells in F-12 has resulted in various improved formulations.
cGMP Manufacturing and Quality Systems
Gibco™ F-12 is manufactured in a cGMP compliant facility in Grand Island, New York. The facility is an FDA-registered medical device manufacturer and is certified to the ISO 13485 standard.
Gibco™ F-12 does not contain proteins or growth factors. Therefore, F-12 requires additives, usually 10% -Culture/fbs.html">Fetal Bovine Serum (FBS). F-12 uses a sodium bicarbonate buffer system (1.176 g/L), so a 5-10 % CO2 environment is required to maintain physiological pH. Gibco™ cell culture media in powder form requires supplementing sodium bicarbonate, adjusting pH, and filtering (see Experimental protocol).
