Hoechst 33342 nucleic acid stain is a commonly used cell-permeable nuclear counterstain that emits when combined with dsDNA Blue fluorescence. This dye is commonly used to distinguish dense pyknotic nuclei in apoptotic cells and can also be used in combination with BrdU for cell cycle studies. Also available in solution form (H-3570).
