Purpose: For the selective isolation and cultivation of enteric pathogenic bacteria.

Peptone: 20.0

Lactose: 10.0

Bile Salts: 5.0

Sodium Chloride: 5.0

Neutral Red: 0.075

Agar: 12.0

pH Value: 7.4 ± 0.2 at 25°C

Testing Principle:

Bile salts inhibit the growth of Gram-positive bacteria. Lactose fermentation is differentiated by the color change of neutral red, which distinguishes lactose-fermenting bacteria from non-lactose-fermenting bacteria. Shigella colonies appear colorless, translucent, smooth, moist, round, with edges that are either regular or irregular.

Usage:

Weigh 52.0g of this product, heat and dissolve it in 1000mL of distilled water. Sterilize by autoclaving at 121°C for 15 minutes, then store for later use.
