SLE offers several advantages over other sample preparation techniques currently used for processing biological matrices, such as liquid/liquid extraction (LLE) and protein precipitation. Compared to LLE, SLE offers higher reproducibility and recovery, lower solvent requirements, and prevents the emulsification associated with LLE technology. It also applies to fully automated procedures, whereas LLE does not. SLE provides greater sample extract clarity and analytical sensitivity compared to protein precipitation techniques, which cannot be used to remove phospholipids.
