HKGS is an ion-balanced supplement containing bovine pituitary extract (BPE), recombinant human insulin-like growth factor I, hydrocortisone, bovine transferrin, and human epidermal growth factor. 

Each 5 mL vial of HKGS contains all growth factors, hormones, and tissue extracts required for human epidermal keratinocyte culture, sufficient for addition to one 500 mL bottle of medium.

Following the addition of HKGS to a 500 mL bottle of medium, the final concentrations of each component are as follows:

• Bovine pituitary extract (BPE): 0.2% v/v

• Recombinant human insulin-like growth factor-I: 0.01 μg/mL

• Hydrocortisone: 0.18 μg/mL

• Bovine transferrin: 5 μg/mL

• Human epidermal growth factor: 0.2 ng/mL
